What's New at IAFF 3393

While all of us have an array of issues we are concerned about, candidates for statewide offices were endorsed on their response to issues effecting labor and working people only. Due to several friends of labor running for Governor, there will be no endorsement during the Primary. As you consider the candidates you will be voting for, endorsements of the NC AFL-CIO were as follows:

Name Change Approved

Brothers and sisters,

As you know at our November 2011 meeting, it was approved by membership present to change the name of our Local to Cabarrus Professional Fire Fighters Association. I sent a letter to IAFF General President, Harold Schaitberger requesting our name change and it has been approved. We are official Cabarrus Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 3393.

We will change all printed materials, as we need to reorder. Our Show Fund will continue to use Concord Professional Fire Fighters Association through the calling period of this show. At the beginning of the new show, they will identify us with our new name.

The purposes of this change is to better represent all agencies represented by our Local. It is my hope this will give our Brothers and Sisters from Cabarrus EMS, Kannapolis Fire, and Harrisburg Fire, more ownership in our Local.

Christmas Party/Election Meeting

Brothers and Sisters,

It was decided at our meeting on 11/30/2011 that our election meeting / eating meeting will be on 12/12/2011 at the Union Hall. Our meal will be served at 18:00 and our election will follow at 19:00. Please R.S.V.P Curtis Collins (Collinsc@concordnc.gov) no later than Dec. 8th with the number in your party. Members are welcome to bring any members of their immediate family. I also encourage members to invite co-workers that may be interested in joining our Local. They are under no oblation except to enjoy the fellowship.

All position are up for election except one trustee position help by Timothy Cook from Kannapolis FD. All nominations should be sent to Chris Price (pricec@concordnc.gov). Nominations are open Dec. 1st until Dec. 12th at 19:00. . Nomination will only be accepted during this time period. If we have a position that does not receive a nomination our nominating chairperson Chris Price will make a nomination for the position.

If you are interested in attending the IAFF Legislative Conference in Washington DC March 25th-28th send me an email (faggartr@concordnc.gov). Members to attend will be voted on at the Dec. 12th meeting.

Our name change issue that has been discussed over past years was approved by a unanimous vote of members present at our Nov. 29th 2011 meeting. Our name change will need to be approved by the IAFF, with their approval we will be Cabarrus Professional Fire Fighters Association (CPFFA). Approval by the IAFF may take several months. It is my hope that this will give our brothers and sisters with EMS, Harrisburg, and Kannapolis more ownership in our Local.
